Employment Position: UX Developer: UX-DEV


SAFARI Montage is the leading K-12 Learning Object Repository, Video Streaming Library, IPTV & Live Media Streaming provider. The platform provides an interoperable foundation for teachers and students to access procured, created and curated educational digital resources, create playlists and integrate items into their LMS. The platform is IMS certified in LTI, Common Cartridge, OneRoster and CASE.

SAFARI Montage servers come preloaded with educational video titles tied to the curriculum from the industry's leading video publishers, which include Schlessinger Media, PBS, The History Channel, National Geographic, Scholastic, Disney Education, BBC and more.

Duties:

The successful candidate will focus on web application interface (UI/UX) design and development, participating in the full product lifecycle, working with stakeholders and team members to capture and analyze new product features and requirements; designing and prototyping proposed user experiences and interfaces; and developing in all application tiers to deliver new product features. The position is remote however candidates local to the Greater Philadelphia, PA or Kalamazoo, MI areas preferred.

Reporting to the CIO, the UX Developer will be responsible for the following:

• Developing front-end website or application architecture;
• Designing user interactions on web pages;
• Developing back-end website applications;
• Ensuring applications are responsive to desktop and mobile clients;
• Working alongside graphic designer for web design features;
• Staying abreast of developments in web applications and programming languages;
• Create efficient, reusable code to execute strategic user experiences;
• Execute standards-based interface development of web-based applications;
• Contribute to creation of internal development standards for web-based applications; and,
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Exceptional workflow and UI/UX interface design and development experience, including rapid-paced prototyping and refinement to ensure a streamlined and highly effective user experience;
• Strong knowledge of web standards and accessibility;
• Strong command of web application design & development technologies (HTML, PHP, JavaScript, XML, AJAX, XML, JSON, CSS);
• Strong database development skills using PostgreSQL or similar;
• Experience developing applications for cross-platform delivery on multiple client platforms;
• Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a fast-paced environment;
• Familiarity with JavaScript and other frameworks, such as Angular JS and React;
• Familiarity with application development in Azure, AWS or similar cloud environments;
• Basic command line experience with Linux or FreeBSD;
• Experience developing high-availability applications for Linux, FreeBSD platforms using open-source technologies (Apache, PostgreSQL, PHP etc.) a plus;
• Experience with streaming media / video / multimedia a plus;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in dynamic team environment;
• Solid organizational skills; and,
• Strong communications skills.

Required Experience:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant areas above; 3 years leading and specializing in UI/UX;
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field of study; and,
• Experience working in K-12 education sector a plus.
